Mastering Conversations with Teenagers

Being a volunteer with middle school can be intimidating at times.  Like those moments that you ask a student “how’s it going” or “what’s new” and they give you a one-word answer or when they want to pour out their life on you and your not sure how to respond.  Take about 10 minutes to watch this video to be prepared for those moments.  Doug Fields dives into 3 different types of conversations that we face as leaders with middle school.  We hope this helps you grow as a leader.  Thank you for what you do!

5 Ways To Care For Teens When They’re Hurting

As youth leaders, we know that just beneath the surface of a teenager’s life there is often some type of pain. And it’s important that we feel equipped with ways to respond to their pain with authentic compassion. In this 10-minute training video, Doug Fields takes us through ways to care for students who are hurting and offers great tips on everything from initial responses to helping students take steps toward healing. Whether you’ve been working with students for fifteen years or fifteen minutes, this training will be super helpful.

Doug Fields is a communicator, author, & consultant. He is the Executive Director of HomeWord’s Center for Youth/Family at Azusa Pacific University, the co-founder of Downloadyouthministry.com, and the author of more than 50 books.  In short, he is a Youth Ministry Guru!

Sharing Your Story

We wanted to share a video that relates to one of our semester goals.  It’s a video by Heather Flies about “Making it Personal” and sharing your story.

Heather Flies is an OUTSTANDING youth worker who is incredibly funny. She’s got a huge heart for helping youth workers, and her hugs will crush you. She has been serving at Wooddale Prairie Church in Eden, MN since 1996. She’s a speaker, author, trainer, and all around good person who also graduated from Bethel Seminary.
